I was updating my Vista OS via the update site and noticed they added Dream Scenes to the optional enhancements. I’ve seen this demonstrated a while back under an NDA agreeement, so finally I can say…hey here it is! It lets you embed a movie into your background or wallpaper (for those old school window users).

Pluses-there are some nice movies out there already designed to work as a dream scene, and Stardock.com is releasing free software to let you make your own, etc.

Minus-Load a large mpeg file as your background and suffer the lag of a lifetime.

Use common sesne, if the video is uber large, its going to eat up ram and CPU cycles, so try to find one that has a small footprint but has a nice appeal. Microsoft includes one in the download and it isn’t too imposing at all.

I did have a bit of trouble with the system returning from screen saver, so there may be a bug or hardware glitch in there somewhere. That aside…Dream Scenes are great for giving the once static background some graceful movement.
