Windows Vista Ultimate in the Enterprise

Now that the Vista platform is commercially available, I’m going to try a new application of it as a conference room system. I already have a pretty nice layout, projection screen, long table, stereo, etc. But it’s an XP Media Center 2005 that displays on “center stage” As an IT uber geek, I really like to have thigns as modern as possible, so it should be vista ultimate, with dream scenes running in the background and all visual glass effects cooking so it gets that wow effect.

So here is the issue, I’ll be using a Sony XL2 system as the hardware (angels sing) but it came with only an HDMI putput. My projector is RGB but not HDMI capable, so it may have to be upgraded-that’s a really nice projector too, so someone will get a nice upgrade at work when it gets reassigned. The second issue is Network drives.

Since the conference room is used for training (often) it has to be able to run all corporate apps with ease. I think Ultimate will connect to a domain with little effort, but I wondered if there are work arounds to that, for others who don’t need the media center extras that come with ultimate?

I don’t see why microsoft would be so objectionable to that so I might be missing something that is available in the business version. I’ll upload a pic of the final product when it’s all complete….

First Glitch….Sony doesn’t have many XL2 drivers for Vista! I really figured the flagship system for the media center line would be a bit more provisioned for Vista but so far…nope! This takes the DVD carousel out as far as a viable piece of hardware (until they update the drivers) but everything else looks like it will come through.
